It should work. I just tried running Linuxconf off a RH61 box to my own
RH61 box and it worked no problem. What colour depth is the client
running at? Linuxconf needs 256 colours I think. At 16 colours it barfs. 
At the worst, try change the X client to 256 colours and see if that
helps.
