I agree it's the wrong thing to do, but on my local machine here I have
smbmount setuid so I can  mount shares from other machines using
"LinNeighbourhood". In one sense it is wrong, but in a very practical
way it does make sense for me. On a production machine I wouldn't even
think of doing that. On a production machine I'd go to the pain of
typing out the full command line to smbmount so that I knew it would be
safe. Apples and Oranges. Desktop vs server. 
I think Mark Twomey must be grinning at me now reading this ;)
