"Io" is now in beta.
It's an Information Organizer that depends on the Input of people to
present a rich and useful Output of information from the *.linux.ie
websites, including and most importantly the mailing list archives.
In its present form you can browse several categories, and add new
messages or information and you'll be emailed once the message has been
verified.
We'll need volunteers to verify messages in the future. Verified
messages are stored along with the username of the administrator who
verified the message, so there is some accountability there in case of
content issues. We'll be looking for people willing to verify messages
in the near future, so mail me if you're interested.
If you post a URL that doesn't reside on www.linux.ie the URL will
simply be printed, but you can also include a note explaining what's in
the link. Any www.linux.ie URLs will be fetched by the web server and
presented embedded in the browser. This needs a bit of work as it would
be easy enough to get around my checking, it should also accomodate
cork.linux.ie URLs as well as any future sub-domains of linux.ie.
As you can see from the subject, it can be found at http://io.linux.ie,
I cleaned out the test messages but there are still a few left, mostly
from the last few days. There's also lots to do there.
Things high on the TODO list include:
Make it easier to add information. I wonder if we can include a URL at
the bottom of each message sent out pointing to the URL of the message
on linux.ie? ie http://io.linux.ie/io/addmsg/url=http://www.linux.ie....
or put an "Add this" link on every page of the mailing list archives on
the site.
Search facility. search through the SQL database.
Create links between relevant information. time consuming, but might be
automated to a certain extent.
Donncha.
