It didn't, but that was probaby my fault because Mandrake didn't install pppd on
the last (second) install, so I had to install it from an RPM on the CD.
However, I did try it with the ports themselves, which is the same thing, but to
no avail. So if all else fails, reinstall. Again. This time I took the distro
defaults, but I'm shtill shtuck. The exact errors I'm getting - this time I had
the brains to note them down - are:
Internet Dialler in KDE - "sorry, the modem is busy"
Gnome (from KDE) - "the pppd daemon died unexpectedly"

No, because "the modem is busy". When I try and reset it, I can't type anything
into the terminal.

I'll do that the next time. I was impatient this time, after reinstalling again.
Back to Google.
Oh, and I have another problem too - when the machine is shutting down, I get
the error message, "Saving mixer settings aumix - error finding mixer" (or
summat). But I don't care about that.
I think I should stick with the command line really. I've always had trouble
with the GUI in Linux... :)
