[CLUG] ppp trouble

Hi,

yet another request for help from me (I'm sorry - honest)

I've recently had to completely reinstall everything on the linux box I use
to route the internet traffic for my home. Because several versions of
redhat refused to install I've put slackware on it this time. The thing
logs onto the net fine, masquerading and named are working fine and all that
but, after about 30seconds - 1 minute on the net the thing seems to just
stop working. The link is still active in the sense that it hasn't logged
off the net entirely but no traffric appears to be coming in (requests
appear to be making it out - according to the flashes on the front of the
modem at least).

This happens every time - it's not an isolated thing. Using the exact same
modem logging onto the same acount (esat surf no limits job) on a windows
box it's fine.

The machine is a dual pII 233 with 32megs of ram. The modem says 'zoom v92'
on the front. It's a hardware external modem too. I've had it working with
linux before. I'm fairly confident this isn't a hardware problem.

As such I reckon it's some sort of software thing. I can mail my settings
for ppp etc. if it would help. I really can't think of anything that would
cause this.

any ideas?

thanks for your help guys

bob
