yup did exactly what it says on the tin

Step 1:
My brother wanted a fast and easy way to replace his ancient 2 giger with a
nice 20giger. we removed all the apps from the hard disk by uninstalling them.
then just tarred and zipped the windoze directory onto a parallell port iomega
zip disk (100mb). tarred the remaining stuff not in the windoze directory onto
a second disk.

Step 2: replace disks and reboot
reboot with the bbc and zip disk of windoze 98 ready to go.

use fdisk and mkfs.fat32 to create partitions and format them (on the boot disk)
unzip windoze onto boot disk
set up lilo so that win32 boots first time.
now he has a partition ready and willing for linux and his windoze box is ready
too

just rebooted and windoze restarted!
and all thanks to a something i had in my toolkit.

Thank you guys for that old bbc i bought at last years agm, still finding uses
for it as you can see.

(one provisio! we did make an emergency boot diskette in windoze for fear this
whole thing would flop. at worst we would have to reinstall from cds, but as
this is exactly what we sought to avoid no harm done if it did come to it.
boot disk was never needed!)
