[CLUG] gentoo - dead or alive?

What's the current story with the Gentoo project? It seems 1.4 has been in 
rc status for ages. Thinking of installing it on a Sun box (from what I can 
tell Gentoo and Debian are the only 2 current distributions available for 
SPARC), but don't want to find support/updates etc. dropped for it straight 
afterwards.
