Actually, just so that you know, say kppp was
installed, and you were ssh'd in, say you were using
X on your local LAN, on your box type

xhost +192.168.0.x (where x is your gateway) on your workstation and on
the remote machine type
export DISPLAY=192.168.0.y:0.0 (where y is your desktop)
then you should be perfectly able to run kppp.

I used to use wvdial for dialup before.
