Be honest with you Michele I didn't look too deeply into the internals of
it, all I know is that it disabled my system instance of Sendmail, but I can
still configure aliases/virtusertable/access/etc as normal. That's why I
like it, it just works. :)

They do say that it uses their "qmail module" on the site, but I don't
really know what that is, and they also say that "Supported MTA's are
Sendmail, Postfix, Exim and Qmail."

(Actually it seems that it interfaces with the system MTA, so I was
inaccurate stating that it replaces the MTA. Seems to be just a pipeline.)
