cheers - thanks for tips.
i ,very gingerly, using two flat head screwdrivers, and very slowly, managed
to pull off that grey yoke, thus exposing the pins. it slipped off no
problem.
off to maplins yet again. they have that ata100 to usb connector you
mentioned in stock.
