I remember back in my 3.96 days the buffer for each line was hard-coded to be
a certain value (something like 256) and even with the -w option, the line
would wrap anyway with a longer line - darned annoying - I'm a vim man now
though ;) I remember that to get a longer line than that, one had to change a
parameter in the source and recompile... dunno if this is true with 4.10
though...
