Ok. My machine seems to be...decaying...too many wierd problems...

 First; partition table problem:

000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

[root at minbar valen]# fdisk

Using /dev/hda as default device!

Command (m for help): p

Disk /dev/hda: 255 heads, 63 sectors, 784 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 1 17 136521 83 Linux
/dev/hda3 * 18 81 514080 6 FAT16
/dev/hda4 82 784 5646847+ 5 Extended
/dev/hda5 82 212 1052226 6 FAT16
/dev/hda6 213 408 1574338+ 6 FAT16
/dev/hda7 409 417 72261 83 Linux
/dev/hda8 582 784 1630566 83 Linux
/dev/hda9 418 499 658633+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda10 500 581 658633+ 83 Linux

Command (m for help): d
Partition number (1-10): 10
Command (m for help): w

The partition table has been altered!

Calling ioctl() to re-read partition table.
Syncing disks.

Re-read table failed with error 16: Device or resource busy.

Reboot your system to ensure the partition table is updated.
WARNING: If you have created or modified any DOS 6.x
partitions, please see the fdisk manual page for additional
information.

00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

And, when I go back into fdisk, the old partition is still there. Reboots
don't fix it. Rebooting into single user mode doesn't fix it. Recompiling
a kernel without funny filesystem/partition table support doesn't fix it...
