I recently bought a new PC, but I think the COM ports may be bad on it. I've
tried installing my Pilot in both WindowsNT and Linux, but neither OCM port
seems to work. I have an internal Sportser 56K modem on COM3 that works in
Windows, but I haven't had the time/knowledge to test it in Linux. I admit I may
even have the port configured wrong in the BIOS, but Linux recognises three
serial ports on boot-up. Is there a simple way I can prove/verify the on-board
COM ports before I go to the manufacturer for a replacement motherboard? I have
access to serial connectors and am a good solderer, for making loop-back
connectors. I just need a pin-out and some way to test the port. Thanks for your
assistance.
Cheers,
John Gay
