Not from an informational architecture point of view. It is easier to
market one domain than a whole pile of smaller subdomains and it gives
the user an easily remembered URL.
There is a growing trend to CNAME the www address with web so that it is
a lot easier to pronounce on the phone. I think that I read this in
either Information Architecture For The WWW or Web Performance Tuning -
both O'Reilly Books.
