Yep, been using it since it came out. ('bout two months or more)
Quite a nifty package, all the documentation is very "Non Techie" friendly.
That and the fact that it has "Linux for Business" plastered all over the
box, manual, packaging, macromedia style opening sequence...you get the
idea. And it comes with DR-DOS if you need to run DOS apps. There is an easy
to follow book, a set pocket sized flipcard's for FAQ's and DOS to Linux
commands. A light ruby coloured card contains errata and there are a few
ad's for the Linux Journal (And no there is no special discount for OL
users.) and BRU 2000. You get two CD's (One install, one source.) stored in
high density plastic moulded discus's, a bootable Floppy disk and a Caldera
Client for Novell NetWare Floppy disk
The install is cool as it formats you disk media and installs packages while
you configure your mouse, video card (Bit of a dodgy detection process,
ensure you know the settings for your card.), and set up some users (And
what shell you want them to initially start with.), any networks you wish to
attach to. And when your done with that you can "Play Tetris till the cows
come home.", as the manual says. Total integration with KDE (You never start
up in command line mode unless you want it to.). They have licensed WP8 and
StarOffice for personal use and a Caldera hacked version of Communicator is
automatically installed. It's a nice Distro if you want to show off Linux to
business people. The COAS tools are good but they are just that, individual
tools. For the next release they should consolidate everything in one place,
instead of SU having to provide a password for each COAS tool. If they can
keep the development pace on track OpenLinux will be the Newbie's version of
Linux, now if they can simply get the big commercial companies to begin
writing apps for mainstream users things would be great.
Also from what I've read Caldera are also working on a Linux based graphical
turnkey server solution...it will be interesting to see it when it comes out
Mark.
