I haven't used either as a fileserver, but I would imagine that a
low-level 
task like that isn't going to make much use of interface details or
third
party software : it'll be a fairly strict kernel + standard stuff +
samba
install, so either distribution is likely to work equally well.

If you're looking for a support contract, SuSE would probably be better,
as I would imagine that their European suport centre would handle things
more eaily than a US based one.
