everything on the base redhat system is free software with the exception
of the redhat icon package. never used .deb's, so can't comment on them.
<rant>
i think redhat gets a lot of undeserved slagging. they offer closed
s/w when needed, but as soon as an open source solution appears - poof!
there goes the closed package. they used to sell metrox xservers, but
they funded xfree86 driver development and at a certain point declared
xfree86 good enough (laptop users might disagree, and suse also does heavy
xfree86 development). they used to sell cde, but gnome has reached an
acceptable point. (and kde now has an acceptable license for qt) they
used to distribute the shareware xv, but now distribute ee instead.
redhat is far from perfect, but at least criticise them for actual
gaffs - give their tech people some work! (and i hope everyone who
complains about tech goofs can supply a bugzilla id number...)
