[ILUG] Weird X problem

Hi all,

I'm running a fairly scant RedHat 6.0 installation on a 486/66/16, and
I've run into a wee problem. Basically, in getting stuff to fit in 500MB,
with 64MB swap (the workstation install did that automatically), I
unselected (almost) everything, and put back in the stuff I thought I
needed. Basically I want emacs, X with fvwm95, kernel (and source), docs,
ftpd (not anonymous, mind), C development, C++ development, sendmail,
pine, ncftp, etc, etc. I would have liked teTeX too, but whatcha gunna do?

Anyway, the install wanted to put loads of superfluous stuff on, so I took
lots of stuff off, and I figure I must have taken something important away
at installation. When I try to run xapps from an xterm (or even from
menus), I get
[dave at localhost dave]$ Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server
emacs: Cannot connect to X server :0.0.
Check the DISPLAY environment variable or use `-d'.
Also use the `xhost' program to verify that it is set to permit
connections from your machine.

which is, to say the least, a little odd. DISPLAY is set, obviously
enough, to :0.0, and when I run xhost (out of interest) I get the same
error.

Anyone seen this, or something similar, before, and have an idea how to
patch it up?

Thanks a lot,
Dave Neary.
