I've use DPT's 3334UW cards and AMI's Megaraids. The AMIs can be
controlled from within linux (rebuild arrays etc) but the DPTs
needed to boot into (wait for it) DOS! Farcical. Both were slow
as a wet weekend if you (i) turned off write-back cache or (ii)
filled the write-back cache. I doubt I'd use either of these again,
if that helps. In fact, It'll be a while before I use /any/ raid
card again.
