for the mounting try
mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1
(where /mnt/hda1 is the name of a directory you made in /mnt)
this works with the floppy aswell...
mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
you have to specify the file type which in the windows case is vfat
about the pppd...
you might have to initialise ppp in the kernel... i can't quite remeber how
to do it....
but try logging in as root and entering a console. then type in "setup"
(without the quotes)... you can then change the kernel initial runtime
aps...
i'm sure there are other people more ableto describe this than me...
that might help though...

Subject: [ILUG] PPP Problem / Can't mount floppy
Hello
I have recently installed linux and workstation kde, I tried to run pppd
I got the message "PPP is not supported in your kernel" (or something
very similar).
pppd is installed. I have even problem mounting floppy and hda1 on which
win98 is installed.
Regards
Hassan
