havn't used 5, but crack 4 would log to a file - but usually it only logs
when it's finished a pass. Also each pass takes a huge amount of time. I
used to run it on MIPS R4400 133MHz machines against 18,000 user passwd
files for months at a time, and typically only get ~200 cracked accounts.
