Whoah. If you've got the money to buy a PIII-600, go Athlon
instead! In my humble opinion, of course :)

I've found *no* reason to move beyond 64MB for normal use of
Linux. I lived happily with 32 megs in X, running on a
Banshee. It helps having UDMA disks. SCSI would be optimal.
Memory before CPU; stop at 128MB. Not happy? CPU upgrade.
Games too slow? Get Voodoo/Nvidia/whomever's latest 3d card.
Not happy? Gah, some people are impossible to please! ;)
