I managed to get my hands on Linux Answers this am. I had a difficult
choice. PC Plus is also out, and they have some really useful stuff on
their CDs ..Netscape 4.7, Star Office 5.1, latest XFree 86, VMware
etc. However I wanted to support a new Linux Magazine so I bought it instead.
I got my copy in NPO in the Abbeycentre. I suspect that they were given
them free to launch the magazine.....they only had 2 copies and they were
not even on the shelf.
First impressions are mixed..... the magazine is quite thin and costs
£4.99. If I had seen it 6 months ago when I was starting with Linux, I
would have been delighted.
High quality paper, with lots of colour and lots of screen shots, but
unfortunately this has resulted in very little meat on the bones. There is
a map showing the locations of LUGs, which would indicate that no one uses
Linux outside England.
They seem to have had difficulty attracting advertising......you have to
look VERY hard to find any. There was hovever an ad for a company which
produces Tux badges, mousemats, and key fobs...if you are in to that sort of
thing. http://www.scotgold.com.
The editorial at he front apologises for the content, and at the back you
are given the details on how to contact them with suggestions/complaints.
..The CD has RH6.0, Wordperfect8,Wine, Realplayer , Imwheel, and Licq.
It has been written as a Linux mag for Windoze users.
All in all ....a bit disappointing...but you have to start somewhere.
