I'm using his 'Teach yourself C++' to do just that. I've found it very 
good (so far, that is) for someone who knows C well. The thing I 
like most about it is it's crammed with exercises... I'm a big 
believer in learning by using.

I'd be interested in knowing why you say his books are crap. Am I making a big mistake?
