Colm is correct AFAIK, but SONY have been know to sub chipsets during a production cycle. I suggested in an earlier post that running sndconfig and making the appropriate changes (with SB compatible as chosen card.) It would work if he's using the NM256 and also has the NM2000 for SB emulation. Some models have this, some don't.
