I had this problem before (AFAIK it was coming from the speaker, not the
soundcard). Try adding the 'no-hlt' option at boot time (it worked for
me). This is the reason I got from comp.os.linux.hardware:
"The problem seems to be happening because, unlike Windows, when
the processor is idle Linux halts the processor. The processor
then wakes up on an interrupt (e.g. mouse or keyboard event),
which causes a voltage/current spike resulting in some noise.
The no-hlt boot option prevents the processor from halting, so
you do not get the spike when it wakes up.
The downside to using no-hlt is that the processor will not halt, so it
will use more power, and run slightly warmer. However since this is how
it behaves under Windows, this should not be a problem."
