I almost definitely shouldn't as I assume you were just venting but I
will also bite.

Their opinions haven't changed. They are the same opinions that have
changed the world. Just because people are now trying to shake money
out of the open source tree doesn't mean that we should hide away the
embarrasing members of the family.

RMS says what he means and does what he says. Without him you would
Microserf. Because of him you get to have some fun while you work.
Since when did moral fortitude and the ability to stand by your views
become craziness and illogicalness?

ESR is a different kettle of fish. I don't personally like him. His
viewpoints on many things wouldn't be mine and to be honest I see him
as an opportunist. All the same, you can hardly fairly characterise
him as mixed up, crazy and illogical. He is none of these things.

Personally, I don't care if Linux wins the OS wars, conquers
corporatism or any of the other warlike money rooted nonsense that
seem to be impossible to avoid these days. That's the kind of thinking
that gets you into the operating system monopoly mess we are just
pulling out of.

If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem. RMS
and ESR are part of the solution. I am part of the problem. I would
prefer to be part of the solution but I haven't had the courage of my
convictions. Which are you part of?

Regards,

Dermot.
