Last I checked (which was after their new price hike which they advertised
as a price cut. Remember: "Off-peak calls now cost 5p for 5 minutes, 6p
for 6 minutes, 7p for 7 minutes". These are the same calls that used to
cost 11.5p for 15 minutes IIRC! So Eircom advertise a 40% price
*increase* as a price cut!!) Anyhow, I was doing the price comparison
between Eircom and NTL (NTL will be cheaper for me once they get their
physical network installed) and I called Eircom for clarification on
charges.

Off-Peak local and national calls have a minimum charge of 5p. *All*
other calls have a 11.5p minimum charge. This includes the 1891 Internet
access numbers. All calls are charged per second after the minimum charge
has elapsed.

So. I have diald set up with a 7.5 minute (or whatever) initial impulse
at peak times, a 15 minute initial impulse for off-peak and per second
thereafter. If you're using one of the "free" dialups, you're on a local
call and the minimum charge is 5p off-peak only. It's *still* 11.5p at
peak times!
