[ILUG] Sybase Questions

Hi,
Seasons Greets to all. The problem is sybase related. Specifically, how do I
'back up' a server.

Details. NT machine running Sybase (not mine, I've just been asked to put my
money where my mouth is re linux) fell over, the owner after long deliberations
hit the reset button and all was well. He wasn't happy at the level of support
he received from his friendly vendor ("Hit the reset button and see what
happens!"). This morning I put linux on a machine in there and managed to dump
the databases to files and then take them into sybase on Linux. Worked fine.
What I'm trying to find out is if I can perform a similiar action without
having to dump the databases to files and re-reading them into the linux
server. Also, there are other objects in the server such as logins etc, and how
would I go about bringing this data across?

The ideal would be a script which would copy all tables from one server to
another at night when there is no one accessing the database.

One more question, anyone running Linux on a Powerbook?.

Cheers

John
