Ahah, but you can put it in the BR of the extended partition. If you do
this, 
you will only be able to make it bootable with linux fdisk, as DOS fdisk is
incapable
of believeing an extended partition is bootable :(

I generally find the easiest layout is to make a small (50 Mb or less) root
partition, 
give the Win98 partition the rest (up to 8.4 to be sure about it), and start
extended and
logical partitions at > 8.4GB.
