Hit 'x' rather than 'q' to exit the second and subsequent instances
so that they don't write changes to /var/spool/mail/$USER.

If you hit 'q' the first instance will spot that the mailbox has been
modified and resync, but you might lose flags on messages.

I've never seen it lose mail, so don't worry too much.

Set sendmail_timeout to -1 in your muttrc and it will background sendmail
immediately after sending the message, leaving you to get on with other
stuff while sendmail's DNS lookups timeout.
