[ILUG] Getting Corel Linux to install, X problem

Any text based install for the Corel Linux CDs that we got at the AGM?  I
have a Trident AGP gfx card and generic monitor and when I boot the Corel
CD, the monitor switches off when X starts during the install process (in
fact, the *entire* install process is in X).  I've seen this problem before
and it's about the video timings for the monitor.  I can't get a clean X
display with this monitor unless I specify scan rates somewhat in excess of
those listed in the monitor specs.  I've tried the "hold shift key at splash
screen" for the options screen but there is nothing about using a text
install.  If I do a <CTRL><ALT><+> I get no resolution change and if I do a
<CTRL><ALT><BACKSPACE> to kill the X server, the system reboots.

Any ideas?
