[ILUG] XF4.0.1, xdm and the missing PATH

installed XF4.0.1, which went fairly easily with RPM after getting to the
end of the yellow brick dependency road, and found that upon login
gnome-session didn't start my window manager. weird..

turns out XF4.0.1 xdm from RH Rawhide seems to reset the PATH to something
very bare, so you need to use DisplayManager.DISPLAY.userPath to put
/usr/X11R6/bin back in there...

funny thing is: that xdm option is present in XF3.3, but xdm on XF3.3 on
my RH6.2 laptop does not reset PATH.. weird.

anyway.. hopefully this'll save someone the head-scratching and script
debugging that i went through.
