]I've done the following:
]Deleted all the 2.2.14* files in /boot
]Edited /etc/lilo.conf to just say vmlinuz, instead of vmlinuz-blah
]cd /usr/src
]mv linux linux-sucks
]Downloaded 2.2.15, extracted into /usr/src/linux
]cd /usr/src/linux
]make xconfig
]make dep clean modules modules_install install
]reboot
]
]Funnily enough, I can now run vmware-config fine.
Now all you need to do is get 2.2.16...
hint: when you extract 2.2.16 (mv linux linux-now-rocks, tar -xvzf
linux-2.2.16.tgz), copy the .config file from the old 2.2.15 directory and
run a 'make oldconfig'. This will use the keep all the settings that you
already setup in 2.2.15 and will prompt you for any new settings that might
exist (to which you will probably just say N). Stop you having to remember
what config settings you used last time...
