What autonegotiation modes are supported by *both* the NIC in the G4 and the
switch?  Any decent NIC, swithing hub, or switch will support the IEEE 802.3u
autonegotiating standard. If it doesn't it shows that it's an old piece of kit
or just a crap piece of kit. Check your respective manuals.
