I've certainly seen it before when a large network was upgraded from 10M
to 100M. The new (Cisco) switches were autosensing as were some of the
network cards. The solution depended on the network card. Some allowed you
to force them into 100MB mode using a DOS program (mainly 3coms), and
others required that you set options for the adapter in Network Control
Panel (highlight the adapter and click properties). On an NT network it
resulted in a user not being able to log-in for a minute or so (but the
attempts were treated as failed log-ins! - go figure)
