in the config there is an option for "user-id" set this to the username
you want to connect with. (but be aware this username will probably be
included in the headers of emails you send)
to get pine to remember passwords, you need to create/touch some kind of
file, eg pine.pwd on DOS pine. It'll probably be different on Unix
pine. Check the pine documentation.
