[ILUG] ALSA probs...

Hello,
When I play a sound with aplay or play (sox) it plays the sample and somethimes lets out a loud noise (lasting 2/3 seconds) at the end of the sample. Other times it simply repeats the sample over and over and over... And I must reboot to stop it, i.e. kill does nothing and playing another sample only makes things worse! volume control does work... My card is an on board ESS1888. pnpdump does not detect it, and other sound drivers complain of IRQ conflicts, when in fact there is none. Perhaps someone out there has experienced the same?
