A hub shares the bandwidth between all its ports, whereas a switching hub
(I don't know that there's any difference between that and a switch, apart
from being more descriptive) gives the quoted bandwidth to each port.
If you have n clients and 1 server, there's not much difference, because
the server's bandwidth will be the bottleneck, but if you have
communication between more machines, then a switch is a win, as you
effectively have a full bandwidth connection between any two machines.
