Even if those officers may not themselves be rooted in Irish culture?
IMHO you can be born in Ireland, to Nth generation Irish parents, and
have no connection, nor desire for connection to what passes for Irish
culture, and that's just one good reason not to pursue such an agenda,
the other good reason being our friends here from other cultural
backgrounds.

Actually, it calls for a focus on ease of communication over people's
petty nationalism. In the networked world, nations are obsolete.
People just haven't realised that yet.
