A couple people I know have encountered a new version of the Ensoniq
AudioPCI chipset (in an SB PCI128, actually) that needs one of the 2.2.15
pre-kernels to be supported properly; they must have made some changes in
the latest versions of the chip.  You might want to give that a try.

The AudioPCI driver does not support playing MIDI files.  I think there's
some software wavetable synthesis code in the kernel, but I haven't tried
it yet; to be honest, I never play MIDI files :-).
