And thoroughly discussed by everyone else too. I don't see how not having second
levels is holding it back though. Why do you say that? The only second-level I'm
surpised we don't have is gov.ie. Using irlgov.ie is just plain silly. Jeez,
Nominet in the UK have their *own* second level - nic.uk! :)

AFAICR the "new" IEDR will be a non-profit organisation, possibly charitable. I
think that the terms of this are still being discussed. What I do know - or to
be safe, have read - though is that a major problem when the IEDR was* run by
UCD, was that any profits went into a holding account, that *no-one* could
touch. What will happen with that holding account has never been clarified, as
far as I am aware.
