[ILUG] ftp

Indeed, and I agree with Kate too. However, what really caught my eye was
the sharpness of the answer itself. Everybody, especially newbies, makes
mistakes. Following from that, some people will make the mistake of posting
something OT to a linux list. This would probably happen because (a).
they've seen some OT posts during the _very_ short period they've been on
the list and (b) they have no real idea of list etiquette or how closely the
list adheres to it. Most people, when told of their mistake will be happy
to modify their behaviour and won't do it again. Simply replying to the
user in a derogatory fashion is only going to perpetuate the view most
non-techies have of us as being unapproachable and generally unwilling to
give out information. My personal view is that if you can't explain a
mistake to somebody in an open and personable manner then don't post. As a
case in point, we all were mightilly unimpressed by IT Direct's mail to
Kathryn a few weeks back. Acidic mails from the list present that same
impression to new users. In conclusion, the entire point of this is that,
to quote the old adage in a warped fashion, you'll catch more bees with
honey than with vinegar.
