Um, yeah. I got IR working with a Toshiba Portege 3020.
Pretty straightforward, kernel 2.2.15, irda-utils 0.9.9, some minor
configuration and Bob's yer whotsit. I have had the whole machine lock up
on previous kernels though, usually as a result of a dodgy link and/or some
misconfiguration. I really wouldn't want to try and do the dial-up access
via IR thing though, and instead would say to go with a Xircom CEM56-100
and a GSM cable to your phone. That would also mean you can move the mobile
around to get a better signal.
The other thing I got caught out by is that the IR interface on the
Nokia 61[15]0 isn't much use for talking to non-Nokia kit.
