[ILUG] Backspace

I have recently upgraded from Mandrake 7.0 to 7.1. I'm happy enough but for one
small problem.......my backspace key won't work. Sure it's a small problem,
but it's a small pain in the neck! It was working fine in 7.0.
It will only work in xterm or in the gnome terminal. Anyone else had this
problem? If so, is there a fix? Or am I missing something blindingly obvious?
