Sure, but the VOB and VIEW analogy doesn't really carry through.

Basically what ClearCase people think of as VOBS are modules in CVS. And
what we think of as a view is a number of modules checked out to the
local machine with the appropriate command line - CVS supports
branching, labelling, timestamps, as well as selecting individual
versions. I'm not sure - maybe someone else knows? - if CVS supports a
config spec type idea, where you can single out different versions of
different files based on a hierarchy of rules. If not, that's a fairly
big plus to ClearCase, but I suspect there's some way of doing it in
CVS. 

Basically CVS seems to support most of the stuff that ClearCase does
(I'm no expert in either, mind). Personally I prefer ClearCase, but
that's probably only because I know it better and use it more. Then
again, I don't have to pay for it :)
