Actually I found an easier method, I'd forgotton I'd mailed the list on
this, so I suppose I'll mail the answer ..

sfdisk is your friend, although Extreme care should be taken with its use
...

unlike its cousins fdisk and cfdisk, sfdisk could "see" the partition table,
and has a command-line interface that allows type changing ... always a good
plan ...

man sfdisk

I still have NT issues, although re-partitioning the HD isn't all that big a
deal, I've loads of space to rescue configs etc. I've got booting from the
SuSE cd and using it as a rescue image down to a T. (ReiserFS isn't on most
Boot/Root disk / cd sets)
