oh yes,

as a point of interest:

www.wavelan.com. cards are about UKP £300. (antenna's -> ???)

they also have a high-gain antennas, and a table of typcial ranges
http://www.wavelan.com/products/OUTDOOR/Ranges.htm. with their 24dBi
antenna you allegadly can get 11Mb/s at 19.4km! and 5Mb/s at 24.5km.

are 24dBi antenna's legal in this country? (radio hams?)

14dBi will allegedly do 11Mb/s over 12.8km/8miles. so for £300+???
per 4-10km we have a dublin ILUG MAN @5.5Mbit/s, maybe even 11Mbit/s
for certain hops.

all it needs is enough people interested.
