hi all

I live in Ennis and have ADSL on a trial basics. I have tested it and
configured it under Linux Redhat 6.1 Windows 95 and Windows NT. Also
have configured in LAN situation in Ennis. Currently as far as I am
aware there is approx 96 Users on this. Throughput is very good for ftp
or large downloads. I have got 100kb/s from esat during the day and up
300kb/s at night. For ordinary browsing it is no faster then MLPPP on
ISDN due to packet size. You can adjust this with the size of your TCP
recieve Window but that degrades ftp transfer speeds. Transfer speeds
outside of Ireland vary between 20kbs to 90kbs depending on host and
time online.

Why will they not implement it ??
My ADSL in Ennis is connected to the same fibre line in the exchange as
all other dial-up users in Ennis. At peak times throughput drops due to
number of users. If everyone in ennis had ADSL the throughput would drop
away completely as we are all sharing the same bandwidth. Also I don't
think that there is enough bandwidth coming into the country or linking
all digitial exchanges at the present time to facilitate widespread roll
out of ADSL. Combine this with economic factors and ADSL been
comercially available for a long time.

For John.

To state that the Ennis Information Project has been a failure is mad.
How else can we learn only from our mistakes.

Regards Ger
