I've run into more trouble after my upgrade at the weekend. Now the printer
isn't working. I've switched the device from lp1 to lp0, but when printing
is attempted, I get
Status: cannot open '/dev/lp0' - 'No such device', attempt 1, sleeping 10 at 10:51:08.850
when I run lpq. The parallel ports are being picked up on bootup, with the
following messages:
Sep 8 21:39:09 vangogh kernel: parport0: PC-style at 0x378 (0x778) [SPP,ECP,ECP
PS2]
Sep 8 21:39:09 vangogh kernel: parport0: detected irq 7; use procfs to enable i
nterrupt-driven operation.
Sep 8 21:39:09 vangogh kernel: parport1: PC-style at 0x278 [SPP]
The boot messages mention procfs, so I do a bit of digging. In
/proc/parport/0 the 'hardware' file contains the following
base: 0x378
irq: none
dma: none
modes: SPP,ECP,ECPPS2
while the 'irq' file contains
none
Will switching on interrupts make the printer work again, and if it will, how
do I do it?
